A Bit About Us

We often feel as though we are missing something before leaving the house. Perhaps a jacket; a hat, some makeup, or even a pair of socks. Those things are thought about consciously, knowing that without them, the world might view us as incomplete. How about walking outside without a notion of who you are, no sense of identity, nor a past to embrace: will anyone notice?

Johns Hopkins ¡Baila! seeks to find the answer to that question through
the art of traditional and modern Latin dance. The rhythms and beats that go with each song are simply mosaics of Latin America's history and vibrant culture. The moves resemble an interweaving of cultures, as Latin America was seen as a nest to oversea travelers. Those styles have evolved into what we know today as Latin Dance, encompassing rhythms that range from the softest hymns of traditional folklore to the upbeat tunes of Salsa, Merengue & Bachata.

Since the 2012-2013 school year, we have facilitated a reconnection of Johns Hopkins students with the Latin American art of dance, digging through the past as our fresh performance troupe makes a unique addition to the Homewood arts.
